Key Facts
- 2.4 acres of mature coniferous woodland
- Home to a range of birds and animals
- An improved network of paths with nature trail and benches
Ambition
Safeguarding a well-loved area of woodland for all to enjoy.
Simon Blackett, Chairman BCL
Success
We have successfully raised funds and purchased the wood from Mar Estate and are now working on a programme of improvements to benefit the community.
Braemar Community Limited have taken ownership and management of this small, but well-loved, area of woodland beside the proposed community-led housing site. Community ownership of the Tomrichton Woods will allow much-needed maintenance to take place, as well as improvement of the paths that run through it so they are accessible to all. A nature trail, nesting boxes and picnic benches have recently been installed.
The woods are known to be home to a number of birds and animals, including red squirrels, pine martens, a rookery and woodpeckers. Bringing the woodland under local control will enable much-needed managament of the trees, including replanting and regeneration, improving their general health and increasing the level of biodiversity found in the woods.
