Key Features
- 2.5 hectares of woodland, grassland and wetland
- Situated between the village and the River Clunie
- Variety of biotopes for birds, animals, insects, and flora
Ambition
To provide access for Braemar residents of all abilities to a beautiful natural environment.
Progress
Braemar Community Limited has successfully engaged with Aberdeenshire Council to take the 2.5 hectare area of land in to community ownership.

Located behind the Garage and over the Clunie footbridge, the land was transferred by Mar Estate to Aberdeenshire Council in August 2017 for use as a community meadow for recreational and community purposes. The land has since been gifted to BCL by
Aberdeenshire Council on the back of a Community Asset Transfer Request.
The main objective of the project is to allow the wood to regenerate, increase the biodiversity of the area, and provide access for all people of Braemar including people with reduced mobility who use walking aids and wheelchairs and young families with buggies.
The development funding secured by BCL has been granted on the basis of a rough plan for what should be done with the land:
- To undertake work to enhance biodiversity, and allow nature to thrive
- To ensure the site is accessible to people of all abilities (i.e. wheelchair users, families with pushchairs, and the elderly)
- To provide a place for outdoor/nature based education
To help shape the details of the development plan for the meadow, BCL is hosting a Community Consultation Drop In Session at the Braemar Village Hall on the 15th of April 2.30 pm – 7pm.
If you want to become involved and/or have suggestions, please coma along to the consultation or get in touch with the team at BCL via our email address.
